so i’ve been a bit slow with my rite aid & cvs deals this week, probably because neither has much to offer, and i’ll probably just skip out and start over fresh next week. however, i was TRYING to write a post. a very sad post actually, entitled “now i’ll never get my olympic lapel pin!“. i know, tragic. so i was surfing through the 1/24-2/27 single check rebate guide, digging hopelessly for something worthwhile to put in my post, and i came across the “healthy heart 2010 rebate“. basically, buy $25 worth of a bunch of heart healthy crap (soy joy bars! ug!), get a $10 gift card back. nice, but here comes the BIG MONEY: buy $50 worth, get a $25 gift card back. SCORE! and i’m wondering why nobody is really talking about this and how totally amazing it is… and then i see it. THE FINE PRINT. not so fine really.
damn! bitches are on to us! all i’m saying is that i desperately hope that this does not become a trend.
Those bastahds!
Hey, did you know about this? http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PortlandMECouponSwapper/messages?o=1
Not sure if you’re into coupon swappin’, but kind of cool. Guess the board has been super quiet but I’m going to try to breathe some life into it…
like i said, i just hope it’s not a trend. at least we still have the “go for the gold” rebate! come on, you totally want that lapel pin 🙂
wow, that group is dismal! i feel like the key to reviving it might be finding a solid portland reader base- and then trying to get them to join. i’ve only been open for business since september, and i’m slowly gathering steam, but not too many of my readers are from maine. haven’t quite figured that one out yet. any secrets?
No secrets here unfortunately! I’ve just been telling friends about mine and hoping I can get into a groove. I think we’ll get there, it just might take some time!
And yeah, eff the $35, I just want the lapel pin… if only I could find a lapel…
friends! that’s probably a pretty good idea. i’ve been weirdly “in the closet” about my blog to almost all of my friends… i’m afraid that people will feel obligated to read it. i guess i’m just weirdly self conscious about it. maybe it’s time to let them in- otherwise i’ll never find any maine readers!
as for the lapels, a quick trip to the “dress barn” in south portland could remedy that for sure. i’m sure you look GREAT in rayon 🙂
I just don’t understand what the deal is with the “after coupons” thing. It isn’t as if they don’t get reimbursed for them. Seriously! Walgreens started doing that with their $/$$ coupons too.
And I’m not sure what the deal is with Target, but whenever I use a coupon, the coupon shows up underneath the product and the total minus coupon shows up as the refund amount if you return something. I wonder if they’ll give me back my coupon if I have to return something!
amen! they’re getting paid, why do they care? it’s like those clerks who try to shake you down because they don’t like that you’re getting things for free. i feel like we might need to band together and crusade for coupon awareness. or maybe we can offer coupon classes for store clerks, they’re the most clueless of all.
i’ve never noticed that about receipts at target, but next time you return something, you should totally ask them to return your coupon. $10 says they don’t give it back!
Target coupon Nazis!! Even with their own coupons. Wish I could boycott them, but I love that stupid store.
i hear that! i am a serious target addict. my boyfriend won’t take me there anymore because he knows i’ll get sucked into the vortex for hours. it’s dangerous- but everything is so pretty and well lit! it’s like the anti-walmart!
The bitches ARE onto us!!! It used to be that you could combine all kinds of Shaw’s printable weekly coupons with manufacturer’s coupons…but now the Shaw’s weekly coupons are filled with SHAW’S brand products! WTF?
Things are changing in the coupon world…
totally. even though i haven’t been in the game for long, i have still noticed a steep decline in deal quality (i’m talking to you CVS), and a steady increase in coupon restrictions. it’s bullshit really. everyone used to be happy, what happened?! was it something we said?
My biggest problem with Target is cashiers who don’t pay attention to their computer screen when they scan my coupons and it comes up “Item for coupon isn’t here.” I know I have gotten screwed out of coupons due to this. Last night the girl just kept scanning and scanning even tho I told her they weren’t going through. She said she re-scanned them but somehow I don’t think she did. GRRR.
that sucks! i’ve never had that problem at my target. walmart yes, every damn time (they’re useless i tell you, useless!). but my target checkers are always on the ball.
I know, I outed myself in a very passive way by posting a link to my blog on facebook. Thus not having to actually tell people in person. Of course now I don’t know whether certain folks have checked it out or not, so it’s sorta awkward…
Ooh, the Dress Barn! Or maybe Fashion Bug. I keep getting catalinas for Fashion Bug from Shaw’s. I’m going to have to Bug it up.
that’s a good idea. maybe i’ll give that a try with a “no pressure” disclaimer or something. it’s definitely time for me to break the seal.
catalinas for fashion bug- i’ve never heard of such a thing! what kind of grocery items trigger them to think that you want to buy plus-size polyblend careerwear (with a decidedly skank edge)? i have to know! also, if you do decide to bug it up, i would love to read a post on what you managed to find that was acceptable. do i smell a physical challenge?
Yeah, it’s been a little awkward though because I haven’t mentioned the blog to any of the friends I Facebooked it to, but inside I’m like a little panting puppy thinking “did you read it? did you like it? did you read it? did you like it? Huh? Huh? Huh?”
Damn girl. You had to challenge me to Fashion Bug. I was actually thinking of checking out Big Lots today, which happens to be nestled right by Fashion Bug… I may have to go in…
And good question on what’s triggering the catalinas… Spam? Queen sized shiny taupe nylons? I want to know too now!
shiny taupe nylons! i’m actually finding that my the few friends who i have told, while sweet and supportive, are not really getting it. coupons are hard i think. look around, all those other coupon blogs are primarily run by uber-conservative, religious, stay-at-home moms. coupons have a terrible rep! but it sucks because (especially in portland), there are legions of young brokesters like myself trying to dig out from under student loan/credit card/whatever debt. we need to start the couponing crusade for people who don’t watch fox news or think that it is gods will to be subordinate to men!
Most of rite aid things say that, but here’s the odd fact– their registers can’t item lock a coupon to a product. Check your receipt and it always says “manufacture coupon” not the product like a supermarket or the target receipt. So the pampers i’ve been buying for p&g have been going through at full value. The forums are saying everyone’s are clearing for the value before coupons.
interesting observation. the p&g one actually doesn’t have that disclaimer, and i’ve not had a problem. i’m curious to see about the healthy heart though- have you bought anything yet? maybe they just do it to scare us!
